Examples of 5E Clients and Needs
Municipalities - Cities or Counties
- Public Health
- Economy
- Job Creation
Cities and counties have many concerns in order to ensure the quality of life for their citizens. From lowering unemployment rates and increasing their economy to maintaining the public health of their communities, 5E can aid in each of these endeavors with projects like our Sun to SAF facilities. We partner with municipalities to fund and operate these facilities, and we share the profits in sales of liquid fuels and other products.
Land Fills
- Overfill
With about 50% of waste in the US being sent to landfills, 2000 active landfills are approaching capacity. Approximately 84% of that waste is carbon-based and would be an ideal material source for 5E Sun to SAF facilities in producing valuable liquid fuels, sustainable power, and very clean water.
Sewer Treatment Plant
- Solids “Recycling”
- End-of-Life Sewer Plants
An important part of wastewater treatment is removing various suspended or dissolved solids. Currently, these removed solids are shipped off as hazardous waste which is a costly service and/or landfilled. 5E can work with your facility to design and install a unit like our Sun to SAF facility to utilize these materials in the production of liquid fuels, sustainable power, and very clean water. This can greatly reduce long-term landfill costs.
Around the country an estimated 10,000 plus sewer treatment plants have reached end-of-design life and major pieces need to be replaced. 5E can help Sewer Plant owners and operators evaluate and implement new technologies which can significantly increase capacity in the same footprint or work in parallel to eliminate plant growth and transition pains to the community.
Recyclers
- Contaminated or Damaged Materials
Recycling facilities have the responsibility of sorting suitable recyclable materials. Sadly, a large amount of material sent to these facilities from Curb Side Collection programs still end up in landfills due to many reasons such as lack of return on investment and improper handling. The benefit of implementing a 5E facility is that the material doesn’t require such high cleanliness as recycling, which in turn creates a profit from materials that would have to pay to be tipped into landfills.
Engineering firms
- Collaboration
Various engineering projects by other firms would benefit from assistance from 5E. We have experience in feasibility studies, mass/energy balances, and front-end loading in a wide variety of sustainable and environmental projects.
Facility Owners
- Facility Expansion
- Efficiency Improvements
- Operating Cost Reduction
- Environmental and Waste Concerns
Facilities of all kinds have various challenges in improving their processes. 5E is prepared to meet those challenges, whether its expansion, making the facility environmentally friendly, or repurposing waste into viable products. There is always a way to improve process and efficiency.
Institutional Investors, Private Equity, VCs and Certified Investors
- Investors Wanting Due Diligence
- Risk Assessment vs Opportunity
- Other Project Feasibility
- Project and Investment Due Diligence
Investing in any project comes with variable risks, and investors may want to use a third-party for due diligence. 5E can assess risks and opportunities through feasibility studies, cost estimation, and revenue projection.
Technology Development, Proposals and Case Studies
Because of confidentiality agreements names have been withheld for the following case studies. However, the following represents some of the work that 5E has done for others and can do for you.
- Tire and Trash Recycling Facilities
The 5E team completed an FEL-1 study for Client on a proposed project in the UAE. While details are governed by NDA, the Feasibility Study helped the company to line up funding on their proposed $300 million facility based on the proposed 5E process and engineering documents.
- Paper Mills
There are a stunning number of paper mills around the planet. The 5E team has developed proposals for several of these facilities to use super critical water reactors to destroy lignin residue directly and to produce power directly rather than use it as boiler “feed stock”. (Destroying lignin by burning it with boiler fuel loses more energy than it produces, and releases significant amounts of steam to the atmosphere as well as organic gases like sulfur dioxides, all of which is not only wasted energy but give the paper mill a dark look from neighbors who smell it and big bulls eye for environmental and climate activists.)
Currently the 5E team is working on a skid to handle unusable recycled carboard for an Oregon paper mill and working on a skid for a paper mill.
- Great Salt Lake Mineral
The 5E team developed a process and proposed a water clean-up skid for efficiently cleaning canal water for use as process water in the plant.
- Dairy
The 5E team has developed and proposed multiple systems for the dairy industry. From skids that take dairy wash down water and convert the green wastewater into sustainable electricity to running the facility as well as cleaning the washdown water so thoroughly that it can be reused.
5E has also developed systems and case studies for Dairy product and packaging plants, again, taking plant washdown water and waste streams and converting these into power and very clean water. In a study for a large Salt Lake mild process facility, we were able to demonstrate an ROI for the project at 1.5 years.
- Rendering Plants
The 5E team has also completed case studies for rendering plants. It was shown that the paunch and green and red washdown water has enough energy to actually provide all the electrical power for the plant. The $15 million implementation project can be done in stages and has under a two-year pay back.
- Commercial Feasibility of Concentrated Solar Project
The 5E team was commissioned to conduct a technology commercial implementation readiness study for a concentrated solar facility. The 5E team found that the technology needed a few more steps to be commercially ready and the 5E team was then commissioned to complete these engineering and implementation steps. The team completed this work and was pleased to build some of the developed components and demonstrate them at full scale.
