Philosophy
“5E” or “Five Element Energy” takes its name from the ancient Greek conception of the five elements. We believe in an integrative and holistic approach to waste management. This approach recognizes the importance of thoughtful consideration of our relationship with the things we create. We use those five elements as a paradigm for understanding our technology.
Earth
A clean earth symbolizes what we want to create. By collecting wastes and hydrocarbons from the land water and sky, we can transform them into clean water, clean air, and other useful materials.
Fire
Fire embodies purification. For us here at 5E we look to that purification as a chain of chemical reactions that allow us to take a hydrocarbon and change it into something clean and useful.
Water
Water signifies the ultra-clean water that results from the transformation process. This element represents the company's commitment to reducing water pollution and creating clean water resources.
Wind
Wind represents movement and agility for 5E, depicting our ability to adapt our solutions to meet your needs. Air fundamental to what we do at 5E, our process can intake air and emit clean air that does not contain pollutants
Lightning
This element represents the electricity generated by 5E's systems. As a usable form of energy, this symbolizes a product of the transformation process - a valuable resource generated from waste

The Technologies that 5E uses to make the world cleaner and greener
Material Sorting and Shredding
In recent years, the Idaho National Labs have focused several projects on biomaterial sorting and selection as well as municipal waste sorting. Most 5E facilities employ state of the art automated sorting to get the right materials in the right processes. Plastic captured in this process is typically sent back out to make sustainable lumber products, keeping the Green Diesel and the Sustainable Aviation Fuel SAF truly green and carbon neutral.
PV Solar, Solar Vaporization and Reformation
SVR or Solar Vaporization and Reformation is a 5E patented technology that uses sunlight to heat the waste materials hot enough to break apart the molecules into usable pieces to then make Green Diesel and SAF in later processes. Most 5E Sun-to-SAF facilities use PV to power processes and plant operations making these facilities very green. This is a sustainable energy source that reduces our dependence on fossil fuels for generating power. It also helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change.
Power Generation with Pyrolysis
In areas where sunlight is not adequate to run full SVR processes, the plants can use well proven pyrolysis processes to break down the plant or paper fibers and prepare the precursor gases for conversion into Green Fuels. While not as efficient as SVR, it is also a remarkably effective and well proven method for breaking down waste materials. Using SVR and pyrolysis, we can use the electricity we generate where we process the waste or send it to the grid for others to use.
SREUS, Micro Filtration, and vacuum evaporator
Most 5E facilities also provide a pass through a SREUS system which uses ultra-high temperature and high-pressure water to ensure that all process waste is completely oxidized and there are no toxic emissions that leave the facility. SREUS can also separate clean water from biological hydrocarbon sludge. This is any wet organic waste like paper, food, or sewage. Micro filtration uses special membranes to filter and collect things in the water. Vacuum evaporators work in a vacuum, so water evaporates at a lower temperature, making it easier to remove. After the water is clean, it can be reused, and the sludge goes to the next step.
